About Verity Jackson-Grant

Verity joined TheJudge in 2018 as Director of Business Development with over 15 years’ experience in the dispute resolution market.

Verity’s unique career path has given her valuable insight into the disputes process. She has significant first-hand experience of law firms’ requirements when determining the most appropriate pricing mechanisms, including how they can develop a risk controlled alternative fee portfolio, as well as an extensive understanding of the client’s mind-set and the process they go through when deciding the terms upon which they engage external lawyers to act on their behalf in contentious matters.

Prior to joining TheJudge, Verity was Head of Business Development for the UK & US Disputes practice at Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF), as well as the firm’s Global Arbitration practice. In addition to devising and implementing strategy to promote the growth of HSF’s Disputes practice, Verity also worked with lawyers and clients to tailor funding and litigation insurance solutions that made commercial sense for the client, whilst ensuring the profitability of the matter for the law firm. Whilst at HSF, Verity worked closely with TheJudge to develop the firm’s ability to offer damages based agreements through the use of DBA insurance, a product devised by TheJudge.

Before joining HSF, Verity spent five years as the Business Development Manager for the Dispute Resolution team at Mishcon de Reya where she launched Mishcon Protect, through which the firm offers a variety of alternative funding arrangements, and Prenup Protect, the first insurance policy in the UK designed to sit alongside a prenuptial agreement.

Verity has a law degree and began her career as an underwriter in After the Event insurance in 2002 at the origins of the industry. Verity subsequently became a Senior Underwriter and Development Manager for two specialist insurance companies where she worked with disputes lawyers to tailor insurance products that reduced the cost risks associated with bringing or defending a dispute.

Verity is based in TheJudge’s London office.
