TheJudge recently contributed to The Europeans Class Action Forum 2024, hosted by ThoughtLeaders4 Disputes. The two-day conference in Amsterdam focused on the evolving class action regime in Europe. With speakers from across Europe and the globe, the event underscored that collective redress in Europe is becoming an attractive area for litigation finance. This is due to the anticipated increase in cases following member states’ implementation of the Representative Actions Directive (RAD).

The sessions and speakers at the conference highlighted the complexity and opportunities available for claimants, law firms, and litigation funders in the European class action space. Matthew Amey from TheJudge led an engaging discussion on the access to and use of litigation funding and insurance across the European Union. Topics included funding arrangements in European member states, value judgments in financing mass litigation, European precedents for financing, and recent case law concerning funding in Europe.
